Peegue's Puzzle Page

Welcome to the second edition of Peegue's Puzzle Page. As you know, Peegue is the mayor of Wondertown and, as such, comes across all sorts of problems that need to be solved.

Can you help Mayor Peegue set things straight again?

Puzzle #1: Picking Out Presents

Each year Loof and cousins Oof, Snoof, Poof, and Goof exchange colourful stars at the Wondertown festival.

This year:
* Loof gave a star to Oof.
* Oof gave someone a red star.
* Snoof gave someone a gold star.
* Someone gave a rainbow star to Poof.
* Someone gave a green star to Goof.
* One of the stars was silver.

If everybody gave and received exactly one star, can you figure out who gave what colour star to whom?

Puzzle #2: Squabbling Stinkers

Because the houses in Wondertown aren't very big, many of the little Stinkers share rooms when they're younger. Recently a pair of Stinkers had been trying to divide up their rooms into two sections as fairly as possible - both wanted their section not only to be the same size, but also the exact same shape as the other's.

Although the room was an odd shape, Peegue managed to help them divide it into two equal parts, like this:

The two Stinkers were delighted.

Of course, word got around about Peegue's ability to make fair divisions, and soon three other Stinker pairs presented their quandary to Peegue.

Can you help divide each of these three rooms into two sections of the same size and same shape?

Both of these puzzles might take some time to work out, so don't give up too easily. Make time on a Sunday morning, grab a cup of tea or coffee, put your thinking cap on, and let the puzzles percolate in your mind.

If you think you have the answers (or you -gulp!- give up), you can send Peegue an e-mail at peegue@midnightsynergy.com. You will receive an automated reply with the link to the solutions. (Make sure that you add Peegue to your address-book if you use a spamfilter, so that the reply doesn't land in your junk folder).
